eGulden announces its OERUShield wallet upgrade
Historical retrospective compiled on 24 October 2026. Dated to the September 2017 announcement in the blockchain-explorer discussion.
Evidence: Foundation technical announcement.
The Electronic Gulden Foundation announced wallet version 1.4.0.0 with OERUShield, a mechanism intended to protect its smaller proof-of-work network against majority-hashrate attacks and double spending. The announcement asked infrastructure operators to upgrade and said activation would depend on sufficient participation. It described the mechanism as blockchain-based rather than reliant on external checkpointing. Such a change addresses a recurring problem for smaller mining communities, where outside hashing power can be large relative to the network’s own. The source documents the foundation’s design and security claims; it is not an independent demonstration that every attack scenario had been eliminated.
