Vertcoin activates Segregated Witness

Vertcoin’s published specifications record activation of Segregated Witness, or SegWit, on 7 May 2017. SegWit separates signature-related witness information from the original transaction structure and was an important change in the Bitcoin-derived cryptocurrency ecosystem. Vertcoin’s adoption placed it among the earlier networks to activate the technology. The historical milestone concerns a consensus feature, rather than a guarantee of lower fees or a specific level of subsequent payments adoption. It also shows how an independent blockchain can adopt changes from the wider open-source ecosystem on its own activation schedule.
