Argentum prepares a broader mining-algorithm upgrade

Historical retrospective compiled on 24 October 2026. Month-end retrospective for the February 2018 releases; activation was scheduled for March.

Evidence: Project release notes.

Argentum’s release history documents an expansion of its proof-of-work system with four additional mining algorithms: Lyra2REv2, Myriad-Groestl, Argon2d and Yescrypt. The new algorithms were specified to activate at block 2,977,000, alongside protocol changes described in the related release notes. Those notes estimated the activation around March 2018. The significance was a wider set of mining options across different hardware types. A scheduled block height and an estimated calendar date are distinct: the release announcement establishes what was planned, while confirming the exact activation time would require examining the historical blockchain.
