Auroracoin moves to multi-algorithm proof of work

Historical retrospective compiled on 24 October 2026. Month-end archive date for the May 2016 transition recorded by the project.

Evidence: Project mining history.

Auroracoin’s mining history records a move to a multi-algorithm proof-of-work codebase in May 2016. The transition changed the target block interval to 61 seconds and adjusted mining rewards accordingly. It represented a substantial revision to the mechanics of a network originally derived from Litecoin. Multiple mining algorithms offer several paths for participating in block production, although the actual security of such a network still depends on mining participation and implementation. The date used here represents the month documented in the project’s history, rather than an independently established day of activation.
