Pakcoin launches as a Pakistani cryptocurrency initiative
Historical retrospective compiled on 24 October 2026. Year-end retrospective: the cited academic review establishes launch in 2015.
Evidence: Later academic review of the historical launch.
Pakcoin (PAK) launched in 2015 as a cryptocurrency initiative associated with Pakistan. A later review in the Lahore Journal of Economics describes it as the country’s first domestic cryptocurrency, placing it within the wider history of blockchain adoption and regulation. Its national identity did not mean that it was issued or guaranteed by Pakistan’s government. The launch preceded subsequent reports of merchant acceptance, banking restrictions and a change in consensus mechanism. Because the cited review establishes the year rather than a precise launch day, this entry uses a year-end retrospective date and does not imply that the network started on 31 December.
