eGulden (EFL) began as an initiative by Dutch students who wanted to make cryptocurrency more accessible to people in the Netherlands. The maintained project announcement dates operation of its Litecoin-derived blockchain to 19 March 2014. Its early identity emphasized Dutch-language participation and distribution to the public, rather than merely listing another speculative asset. Later stewardship passed to a volunteer foundation. This entry concerns Electronic Gulden, ticker EFL; it should not be confused with the separate Gulden cryptocurrency using NLG. The dating comes from retrospective project records rather than an independently observed launch report.
