Vertcoin switches its mining algorithm to Verthash
Historical retrospective compiled on 24 October 2026. Dated to the 30 January 2021 fork, confirmed in f2pool’s subsequent roundup.
Evidence: Mining operator’s contemporaneous confirmation.
Vertcoin changed its mining algorithm from Lyra2REv3 to Verthash at block 1,500,000 on 30 January 2021. Mining operator f2pool confirmed the transition in its following roundup. The change was a concrete consensus event requiring miners and supporting infrastructure to use the new algorithm, rather than simply an announcement of a possible future improvement. Verthash formed part of Vertcoin’s continuing effort to keep GPU mining practical. That design objective should not be confused with proof that specialized hardware could never be developed or that all majority-hashrate attack risks had disappeared.
